Kagiso school gets a Mandela Day library
Khaselihle Primary School in Kagiso, near Krugersdorp on the West Rand, is the latest school to receive a Mandela Day library from the Mandela Day Library Project, the programme reported on 27 March 2023.
The Mandela Day Library Project is the primary Mandela Day focus for South African non-profit organisation Participate for Good, which operates a fully automated system for gathering funds for the programme.
The school’s library is the second sponsored by oil and gas energy producer Oryx Energies in as many years. Oryx Energies director for Africa Blaise Edja flew in from Switzerland to see the library officially opened.
Teachers and excited children, supported by Mandela Education Programme non-executive director Hlubi Mboya-Arnold, thanked Oryx Energies.
The Mandela Education Programme team worked hard to ensure the library, in a repurposed shipping container, was finished on time and well stocked with books from donors and the Rotary Club of Bedfordview.
The Mandela Education Programme’s reading project is critical to developing young minds to the point of being able to read independently, and with understanding.
The journey continues to reach the programme’s goal of reaching two million children daily. According to the administrators, it has reached 10% of this goal.
